Van Morrison has released his 36th (!) album, recorded in the Big Room and Wood Room at Real World.
The Breath have released their debut album ‘Carry Your Kin’ on Real World Records, recorded in the studio.
The Breath is Stuart McCallum (former guitarist of (The Cinematic Orchestra), Irish singer Rioghnach Connolly and McCallum’s fellow Cinematic alumni, pianist John Ellis and drummer Luke Flowers. Born out of Manchester’s fertile music scene they mix Irish folk influences with mesmerising guitar riffs, anthemic themes and powerful hooks. Connolly’s soulful vocals are interwoven into the electronic fabric of McCallum’s distinctive soundworld. In turns hypnotic, lush, powerfully raw and raucously punchy, their songs entrance, uplift and break your heart as The Breath conjure a kaleidoscope of sound that perfectly frames Connolly’s raw songs and soul cleansing vocals.
The Gloaming’s new album – 2, will be released on Real World Records on the 26th February and can be preordered here. Watch the recording of ‘The Pilgrim’s Song’, here.
“The Wood Room is such a beautiful room. Peter Gabriel dreamed up this space for artists. It’s so artist-centric. It’s a forgiving, enhancing sort of room.” Singer, Iarla Ó Lionáird, in Songlines Magazine.
Recorded at the end of 2015 in the Wood Room and Big Room in just one week, the album has received outstanding reviews with The Irish Times saying: “If The Gloaming’s debut album was a startling introduction to the power of five master musicians at work, the second album amplifies and augments the magic between the notes. Every track a winner especially “Casadh an tSúgáin”, “The Old Favourite” and opening track “The Pilgrim’s Song”.”
Long-standing client and close friend of the studio, Guy Garvey releases his first solo album today, ‘Courting the Squall’. Recorded over several weeks in the Big Room/Wood Room last November and March, the album features Garvey’s “favourite musicians, outside of Elbow”.

“From top to bottom, working at Real World couldn’t have been a better experience. In spite of the fact that they’re this legendary studio, they somehow make you feel as comfortable as you’d feel in your own house.
The mix of old world surroundings and cutting edge technology sets a really cool vibe. The place has a real charm to it that somehow permeates the work you do.
Yeah you’re working, but Real World makes it feel more like a working vacation.”
