The Wood Room

One of the most sonically superlative recording spaces ever built, the Wood Room is famed for its warm, rich acoustics, and big enough to hold a large ensemble. While a standalone studio in it’s own right, it can also be combined with the Big Room to provide more typical distinct control and live room setup.

The Wood Room is based on a 24-channel Solid State Logic AWS 924 console with a further 16 channels of Neve 33114 preamps and is the home to our coveted Neve BCM10 desk, which houses up to 10 1073 preamps – split between both rooms.

The Wood Room also contains a Bosendorfer 170CS Grand Piano, a 32-in Pro Tools | Ultimate HDX rig, a 24-channel digital foldback system, and an ever-expanding array of instruments and outboard. Six acoustic screens – some with windows, some without – provide flexible control over the room’s ambience and isolation, enabling the space to adapt to a wide variety of musical and recording requirements.

The character of the Wood Room makes it particularly well suited to genres that benefit from a natural sense of space and acoustic depth – folk, jazz, rock and classical music all thrive here. The stone walls, wood‑lined surfaces, high ceilings and generous volume contribute to a sound that feels organic and alive, offering just the right balance of warmth, clarity and ambience.

“It’s always a pleasure to work at Real World. It has managed to embrace modern technology while still maintaining a fantastic, creative, old school working environment. I can’t think of any other studio that has done this so successfully.”
